BookMaker.com.au Review

Bookmaker online sports betting site review

Bookmaker.com.au is one of the newest additions to the online sports betting landscape and is actually owned by Ladbrokes, the biggest online bookmaker in the United Kingdom. Established in Australia in 2012, Bookmaker have really made an effort to provide one of the best ranges of sports andthey have not dissapointed, with the popular Australian footy codes in particular well catered for. It’s worth noting, however, that Bookmaker.com.au offers fewer promotions than its sister site Ladbrokes and as such is a better choice for beginners who are only interested in gambling on particular sporting events and activities.

The Bookmaker website offers very competitive betting odds on all Australian thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing plus all the major sporting events and novelty markets from Australia and abroad.

History, Location and Licensing Authority

Bookmaker was established in February of 2012 and is licensed and regulated by the Norfolk Island Gaming Authority. The head office is in Brisbane.
In September 2013 Ladbrokes, the UK online betting giant acquired Bookmaker.com.au  as part of their expansion into Australia.

Sign Up Incentives and Ongoing Features

New members receive a 100% first deposit bonus as bonus bets up to $250. The bonus may be used as a single bet or divided in to 2, 3 or 4 equal-sized bets. And just in case  you think the fine print is so fine as to prevent you ever seeing or spending this bonus, allow me to dispel your concerns with the facts – which I might add are short and sweet: Bonuses can only be wagered on markets with 1.50 odds or greater. Only available to QLD, NT, TAS and ACT residents.

Money – Deposit & Withdrawal Options

Like their parent company Ladbrokes – who I believe were the first to bring the Online Sports Betting ATM card to Australia, Bookmaker.com.au have an ATM card that allows you to access your winnings from any ATM in the country. The benefits of this are too many to list but it goes without saying that withdrawing and depositing funds for your online sports betting activities is as easy as can be! Note however that fees may be charged if you attempt to deposit and withdraw funds without betting (which is fair enough really)

Navigation and Usability

The website design and user interface are state of the art and provide a great experience for punters of all experience levels, with excellent betting functionality and a well-designed account management area. A closer review of the bookmaker.com.au layout and members area reveals one of the best online sports betting interfaces we have had the pleasure of using. The online betting site loads quickly and the numerous dynamic features make betting quick and easy.

The Sports navigation is on the left and you can navigate from sport to sport without reloading the page. Information is displayed chronologically and intuitively and makes the experience of online sports betting a truly pleasant one.

One of our favourite features is a widget or website app called ‘Quickbet’, which is a ‘betslip-skipping’ betting device that enables punters to swiftly bet a pre-configured amount with just three mouse clicks. Even without Quickbet pre-configured, whenever you click on the odds for a selection you have the option of instantly placing a wager or adding the selection to your betting slip. Quickslip is a great addition and achieves what other sports betting sites have failed to do – create an easy access betslip that intuitively knows where you are and what your intentions are. The betting slip itself is feature-packed and dynamically displayed at the top of the screen when a selection is added and where applicable, multi bet options are displayed at the bottom of the slip, featuring every combination of the selections in your slip.

Markets, Margins, & Odds

Online Bookmaker Website Margin

In our most recent bookmaker margin survey, Bookmaker.com.au had an average bookmaker margin of 5.5%, which is higher than the survey median of 4.9%. From a punter’s perspective, the lower the margin, the better.
Note that this is the same Margin as sister company Ladbrokes – and although it is one of the highest margins offered by Australian sports betting websites it is offset by the better odds, bigger range of sports markets to bet on and member features and benefits.

Bookmaker Website Sports Markets

The sports betting selection has expanded drastically since Bookmaker.com.au was first launched. Their offerings on the popular Australian sports are now on par with the largest Australian bookmakers. For example in July 2013 we observed up to 24 markets per Super Rugby fixture, up to 47 markets per NRL fixture and up to 142 markets per AFL fixture. The popular American codes are catered for, although not with the same depth of markets as the Australian codes. As seems to be the case with all bookmakers, football (soccer) is heavily covered, featuring numerous leagues across the globe. Tennis is also well catered for. A good selection of other sports, including cycling, golf, snooker, surfing, boxing and motor racing are also covered.

Live Sports Betting

Due to Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act, live online betting is not available. Australian customers must phone in to bet live. Learn more about Australia’s stance on internet gambling –> Here

We Don’t Like Bookmaker Online sports betting website because…

  • No live online betting – which is actually a negative for every Australian sports betting website. *See Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001
  • Dormant account fees – so best you keep on punting…. well at least once a month anyway
  • Fewer promotions than sister site Ladbrokes – probably designed with the quieter gambler in mind who doesn’t want to be overwhelmed with information and bombarded with offers.
  • Doesn’t yet offer the QuickCall live betting feature that Ladbrokes offers. (See our Ladbrokes Review to learn why we love QuickCall so much)
  • Higher than average bookmaker margins – 5.5% same as Ladbrokes which is above the industry average of 4.9%
